AUBURN, Ala. – Coming off an individual victory at the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic, Auburn's Megan Schofill was one of 20 golfers named to the midseason ANNIKA Award Watch List on Monday.
Schofill, a returning freshman for the Tigers, shot three straight rounds at par or better in the team's last tournament, including a season-low 70 (-2) in the first round, to share medalist honors at 3-under par. It was her second collegiate victory. She also placed first at the Lake Oconee Invitational last spring.
Five of Schofill's six rounds played this fall have been par or better. She's currently tied with true freshman Elina Sinz for the team's top scoring average at 71.67 and has finished 16th or better in both tournaments she's played in. In nine career events at Auburn, she has seven top 20 finishes with five in the top 10.
Created in 2014, the ANNIKA Award is given annually to the top female U.S. collegiate golfer. Named for and presented by the legendary Annika Sorenstam, the award was created in partnership with the Haskins Commission to acknowledge the top female golfer at the end of the season, to match the Haskins Award for the top male collegiate golfer.
Schofill and Auburn teammate Kaleigh Telfer will compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup next month. The event, originally scheduled for July, was postponed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Tigers will return to competition in 2021. The spring schedule has yet to be finalized.
