AUBURN, Ala. – One of the top junior players in the United Kingdom, Will Nolan of Derbyshire, England, has signed a letter of intent in men's tennis to join the Auburn program for the 2021-22 season, Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds announced today.
A finalist in a number of international juniors tournaments during the past three years, Nolan has a UTR of 12.58.
"Will is one of the top four or five juniors in England, and he's going to be very, very good as his career progresses," Coach Reynolds said. "He'll have the highest ITF ranking of any player during my time here; when the new rankings come out in January, he's likely to be in the top 70.
"The first thing that stood out about Will was his demeanor, his knowledge of his game and what he needs to do to become better. He has great knowledge of his strengths and weaknesses and has tremendous maturity in regards to tennis and dedicating himself to improving his game.
"He has been all in from the beginning after doing his research on Auburn, and his family is really well-grounded and supportive of his efforts on and off the court. He knows Finn (Murgett) and has played in tournaments where Tad (Maclean) has played, so that's a familiarity with our team as well and will ease his transition to college tennis.
"He has been traveling extensively to tournaments and works from an unbelievable training base in London, where he is working with a number of professional players as well as learning from the top British coaches.
"Will's character and playing ability will make him immediately competitive in the SEC when he arrives on campus for the 2021-22 season."
