AUBURN, Ala. – Coming off a strong performance in The Ally, the Auburn women's golf team will close out the fall schedule this weekend with the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic.
The tournament will run Friday to Sunday from the UGA Golf Course (Par 72; 6,302 yards) in Athens, Georgia, and will feature 11 SEC teams. Including Auburn, who is ranked No. 7, six of the 11 teams in the field are ranked in the top 10 per Golfweek.
The Tigers will have two freshmen at the top of their lineup. Megan Schofill, who played last year, will occupy the top spot, and she will be followed by first-year freshman Elina Sinz who made her collegiate debut at The Ally last month and finished fifth overall. Sinz shot par or better in all three rounds, including a career-low 68 (-4) in the first round.
"It was good," Sinz said. "I was more excited than nervous because I knew it was a great opportunity. I had kind of a rough start to the year qualifying, so I was like now is my opportunity to prove myself, find my spot on the team. In that mindset, I was just keeping to myself, keeping my own game. I knew that in order to help the team, I had to help myself.
"Now I know what to expect. I'm just going to keep the same mindset because I know what works and what doesn't work."
Mychael O'Berry will play out of the No. 3 spot for Auburn this weekend. The junior is the only player on the team to finish in the top 25 individually in each of the first two tournaments.
Rounding out the Auburn contingent in Athens will be sophomore Brooke Sansom and freshman Anna Foster who, like Sinz, made her collegiate debut last month at The Ally.
This will be the program's first appearance in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic since 2016. Head coach Melissa Luellen won the individual title at the event in 1987 playing for Tulsa. Two years later, Auburn's Joal Reider finished first overall to become the individual champion.
The Tigers are scheduled to tee off Friday at 7:30 a.m. CT and will be paired with Georgia and Alabama for the first round. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com.
