Over the next month, we will be introducing our three newcomers for the 2020-21 season. First up is Anna Foster, a native of Ireland who has already made a splash in Auburn with a pair of top 40 finishes in the fall. Get to know Foster and find out what made her want to join the Auburn Family.
What is your favorite time of the year?
Foster: Christmas.
What is your favorite sport to watch other than golf?
Foster: Tennis. I used to play it a lot when I was younger, and I just enjoy watching it and find it fun.
What is your favorite animal?
Foster: It definitely has to be a dog.
What is your favorite song to play before a match?
Foster: Anything by Imagine Dragons
When did you start playing golf?
Foster: I started playing golf when I was 8 years old but didn't start taking it as seriously at the time. But this was when my dad started taking my brother and I out to the driving range.
Did your dad play?
Foster: Yes, he used to play. That is how my brother and I really started getting involved. We would go with him and drive around the golf carts and not really pay attention to the golf until we were about 9 or 10 years old.
What is your favorite club to use?
Foster: Probably my driver.
What made you want to come to Auburn?
Foster: A lot of different things. The facilities here are really nice. I love the team and the coaches as well. And also the climate is really nice.
What is your motivation every time you step into the tee box?
Foster: The idea of winning and just having that feeling of success.
You are from Ireland. How has it been adjusting to living so far away from home?
Foster: Yeah, it's definitely been a big change to what I am used to, especially with COVID-19. Having online classes is not your typical college experience. It's been hard to adjust to the time difference between Auburn and Ireland and finding a routine when I can call home.
How has COVID-19 changed your experience?
Foster: I feel like it hasn't changed too much because golf is one of those sports where you are outdoors, and no one is right next to each other. For workouts we are broken up into little pods. But no, not a huge change.
What is your favorite golf memory or tournament you have played in?
Foster: Probably last year. I went to the 2019 Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship in Houston for about a week. Two men and two women were selected to go from Ireland. It was a team tournament, and we got to meet a lot of players from all over the world. That was definitely my favorite experience."
What is your goal for this season?
Foster: I want to place in the top 10 in one of the tournaments we have left this season. That's my main goal.
