Over the next month, we will be introducing our three newcomers for the 2020-21 season. Next up is Elina Sinz. She's half-Danish, hails from Houston, Texas, and carded a 68 (-4) in her first collegiate round at Auburn.
Who or what inspired you to play golf?
Sinz: My dad used to play golf, so he was my inspiration.
What makes golf special to you?
Sinz: I like that its hard and it's a challenge. Personally, I have to be able to push myself. There's always something you can work on to be better.
You've had three career hole-in-ones. What are the emotions behind making a hole-in-one?
Sinz: It's funny in a sense to me. It's like a "How did I just do that" moment for sure. At the same time, it's awesome and surprising.
What are some personal goals you have set for yourself for this season?
Sinz: In golf, I want to travel and bring my scoring average down. With school, I want to be proud of myself and my grades at the end of each semester.
What is your dream course to play at?
Sinz: Pebble Beach.
Do you have any pre-tournament superstitions?
Sinz: I have nitpicky superstitions, but it varies. One of my superstitions is that if I listen to an artist or a certain playlist while I'm warming up for a round and I play bad, I won't listen to that genre of music the next day.
What are you like on and off the greens?
Sinz: I'm definitely quieter when I play. I try and stay to myself and keep my head down. I stay the same, on and off the greens. I do enjoy hanging around people, but I tend to keep to myself, I'm a homebody.
How is Auburn different from your hometown?
Sinz: I live just outside of Houston, so Auburn is definitely more of a small-town feel than the big city.
What do you miss most about home?
Sinz: I miss my family and my dog. I thought being away from home, I wouldn't miss them as much as I do.
What are some of your hobbies away from golf?
Sinz: I enjoy listening to music a lot, hanging out with friends, and I'm artsy. I like to draw and paint.
What musical artist are you listening to right now?
Sinz: It all depends on my mood, I like country and pop, I tend to mix it up.
What is your major and what about it do you like most?
Sinz: My major is mechanical engineering. I'm very science-y. I like that kind of stuff and enjoyed science classes in high school. My dad is an engineer, and my brother is probably going to be one as well. It's considered a family thing.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Sinz: I wanted to be an astronaut.
What's an interesting fact about you most people don't know?
Sinz: My mom is Danish, so I'm half-Danish. A lot of my family lives in Denmark. I get to travel there a lot.
If you could play nine holes with any professional golfer, who would it be?
Sinz: Stacy Lewis. I've talked to her before after tournaments. She seems so sweet, and I really like her work ethic.
Would you rather play with your best friend or beat your rival?
Sinz: Beat my rival. I can play with my best friend anytime.
What are your goals for your time at Auburn?
Sinz: I want to play golf true to myself. I want to stick to my own values and play for my own purpose.
