AUBURN, Ala. – Sophomore Anders Fry was recognized Thursday as a member of the 2020 SEC Community Service Team in men's tennis, recognizing the accomplishments of outstanding student-athletes beyond the field of competition.
One of the men's tennis representatives on Auburn's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Fry, a finance major from Roswell, Ga., has helped plan and execute a number of activities, including a food pantry collection to provide meals for the less fortunate, and the downtown Auburn Halloween Trunk or Treat festival for kids. He organized his teammates to purchase gifts for the Angel Tree project at Christmas, providing holiday presents for two children. He works Special Olympic camps in the summer as a tennis assistant and has also worked with the Dream Makers camps that introduce underprivileged inner-city children to the game of tennis.
On the court, Fry was part of Auburn's No. 3 doubles team, which posted nine straight wins to begin the spring campaign and finished with an 11-5 record. He was 2-2 in singles play.
Others named to the team include Sam Fischer (Alabama), Josh Bortnick (Arkansas), Josh Goodger (Florida), Sam Dromsky (Georgia), Cesar Bourgois (Kentucky), Daniel Moreno (LSU), Tim Sandkaulen (Ole Miss), Giovanni Oradini (Mississippi State), Beau Pelletier (South Carolina), Andrew Rogers (Tennessee), Austin Abbrat (Texas A&M) and Billy Rowe (Vanderbilt).
All league-sponsored sports have recognized a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003.
