AUBURN, Ala. – Shir Azran, who played the last two seasons at Fresno State, will transfer to Auburn and join the Tigers this fall, women's tennis head coach Caroline Lilley announced today.

Azran was an All-Mountain West performer as a freshman in 2018-19 and played at the No. 1 singles and doubles positions for the Bulldogs this season.

"We are thrilled to have Shir joining the Auburn family," Lilley said. "Her experiences serving her country and competing internationally equip her to bring intangible leadership qualities that will benefit both our team, and the Auburn community as a whole. As an intrinsically motivated competitor, Shir's work ethic fits extremely well with our development-focused culture."

Azran had a 13-2 singles record as a freshman and won at least one match at all six singles positions during the year. She had the second-highest winning percentage of all players in the Mountain West and earned a selection to the All-Mountain West singles team.

"I am so excited to officially join the Auburn Tiger family," Azran said. "I am confident Auburn is the right place for me to fulfill both my academic and athletic goals, and I can't wait to be a part of such an amazing culture! I want to thank the coaching staff for giving me their trust and for this incredible opportunity. War Eagle!"

A native of Bat-Yam, Israel, she was ranked as high as No. 1 in Israel during high school and was one of very few Israeli players to earn a WTA world ranking, ranked as high as 1,127 in the world in singles. She won multiple national tournaments and was part of the U18 Israeli National Team.

Azran joins Adeline Flach (Alpharetta, Ga.) as Auburn signees that will join the Tigers for the 2020-21 season.
