AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn checked in at No. 11 in the Associated Press Top 25 preseason college football poll, which was released Monday.

It's the fourth straight year the Tigers have been ranked in the top 20 to start the season and the sixth time in eight years under head coach Gus Malzahn. This is the program's highest preseason ranking in the AP poll since they were ranked No. 9 in 2018.

This year also marks the 40th time Auburn has been ranked in the preseason AP poll since it began in 1950, including 37 years ranked in the top 20.

The Tigers are one of six SEC teams ranked in this year's preseason poll and one of four teams from the conference ranked in the top 11.

The AP rankings will be unique this year in the fact that while all Division I teams were eligible for the preseason AP Top 25, voters will rank only teams who are scheduled to play once games begin. That means teams from the Big 10, Pac-12 and other conferences who postponed their seasons to the spring will be dropped off the ballot after the first week. If a spring season is played, the AP will consider doing rankings for those teams, too.

Auburn is also ranked No. 11 in the Preseason Amway Coaches Poll, which was released earlier this month.

The Tigers will open the 2020 season at home against Kentucky on Saturday, Sept. 26.
