Butch Thompson

Butch Thompson grew up in Amory, Mississippi…well 10 miles outside Amory. His front yard turned into a baseball or football field, depending on the season. Originally, Auburn's Head Baseball Coach went to junior college to play football.  He walked on to the baseball team. By the time was he was done in junior college, his path in baseball was set.

Thompson went on to play at Birmingham-Southern for his mentor Brian Shoop, who later gave him his first break as a coach. That included four trips to the NAIA World Series and a National Championship. He was an assistant at Georgia, Auburn and Mississippi State, going to the College World Series with both Bulldog teams. It took him four years at Auburn's Head Coach to take the Tigers to Omaha.

With the college baseball season on the horizon, Butch Thompson's journey to become Auburn's Head Coach is featured in this Talking Tigers Podcast, presented by Wickles Pickles.
