BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Auburn men's golfers Andrew Kozan and J.M. Butler have been honored by the Southeastern Conference, the league office announced Wednesday. Kozan was named SEC Men's Golfer of the Week, while Butler was tabbed SEC Freshman Men's Golfer of the Week.
Kozan claimed co-medalist honors at the Gator Invitational last weekend. The senior shot a career-low 11-under (70-64-65--199) and guided the Tigers to a tie for second in the 21-team field in the three-round event.
After an even-par round to begin the tournament, Kozan rose 45 spots on the leaderboard across the final two rounds, highlighted by a career-best 6-under 64 in the second circuit of the par-70 Mark Bostick Golf Course.
The West Palm Beach, Fla. native carded his third and fourth below-par rounds of the season, including second and third rounds in the 60s this campaign. Kozan tallied 17 birdies and 32 pars on the weekend and had only five bogeys out of 54 holes played.
Butler was Auburn's second-highest finisher of the invitational when he tied for 24th overall at 4-under (69-70-67--206). He was one of two Tigers to shoot par or better in all three rounds, joining Kozan, en route to his third top-25 finish of the season.
The Louisville, Ky. native carded his team-best sixth and seventh below-par rounds of the season, including fourth and fifth rounds in the 60s this campaign.
Butler tallied 16 birdies and 27 pars in 54 holes played on the weekend.
