AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn's Unique Thompson was selected as one of 30 candidates for the 2020-21 Senior CLASS Award, it was announced this week.
Thompson has been one of the nation's top post players this season, leading the country in rebounds (13.5/game) and offensive rebounds (5.7/game) and leading the SEC in double-doubles (12). She is Auburn's leading scorer with 17.1 points per game this season and has had two contests with at least 20 points and 20 rebounds, the first such games by an Auburn player since 1993.
She enters this week just 27 rebounds shy of the Auburn career record of 1,118 held by Becky Jackson. With 54 career double-doubles, she is tops in the Auburn career record books and is just three shy of entering the SEC's all-time top 10. She was recently named in the nation's top 10 for the Katrina McClain Award.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as a leader in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
The field will be narrowed to 10 finalists in late February. The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2021 NCAA Final Four this spring.
