No. 22 Auburn starts new week with matchup vs. Jacksonville State

AUBURN, Ala. – No. 22 Auburn completes a stretch of nine games in the first 12 days of the season by hosting Jacksonville State Tuesday at 4 p.m. CT at Plainsman Park.
 
The contest can be heard on the Auburn Sports Network and will also air on SEC Network+.
 
PROBABLE STARTERS

QUICK HITTERS 
Auburn enters the third week of the season leading the country in hits (106) and runs (88) and ranking second in batting average (.361).
 
The Tigers are hitting .340 as a team and have scored 246 runs on 316 hits in 26 games dating back to the start of the 2020 season. The 316 hits are the most in Division I during the span and the 246 runs are second to Tennessee (248).
 
Tyler Miller has reached base in eight straight plate appearances, going 7-for-7 with four runs, a double, triple, homer and four RBI during the stretch.
 
Trace Bright was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA in two starts last week. Bright held Texas A&M scoreless in 6.0 IP after the Aggies scored 20 runs on 21 hits in the previous two games.
 
Freshman right-hander Jack Sokol makes his second career start Tuesday. Sokol pitched 4.0 scoreless inning and struck out six en route to the win against Alabama A&M last Wednesday.
 
Auburn holds a 22-17 advantage in the series against Jacksonville State and is 18-14 against the Gamecocks at Plainsman Park.
 
The two teams have split the last 10 meetings dating back to the 2011 season.
 
SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS 
Jacksonville State enters Tuesday's matchup with a 4-3 overall record. The Gamecocks lost three of the first four games of the season but are coming off a sweep against Valparaiso.
 
Senior catcher Alex Webb leads the team with a .370 batting average and is tied for the team lead with six RBI through seven games.
 
Jacksonville State has turned in a 3.86 staff ERA, led by a trio of pitchers who have yet to give up a run in a combined seven appearances.

In accordance with current state health COVID-19 guidelines, Plainsman Park capacity will be reduced to approximately 20 percent to begin the 2021 Auburn baseball season.
 
Seats will be arranged in pods of two and four with proper social distancing between each available seating group. Available and unavailable seats will be marked accordingly. 
 
Plainsman Patio and Tiger Terrace will be unavailable to begin the season. In addition, alternative viewing spaces outside the park, including the stadium parking deck, will not be available for the 2021 season. 
 
Face coverings (over the nose and mouth) will be required for all spectators and gameday workers upon entry and while inside Plainsman Park. Guests may remove face coverings while actively eating or drinking. Failure to comply with the mask expectation could result in removal from Plainsman Park.
 
All transactions for concessions and merchandise locations at Plainsman Park will be contactless and cashless (credit/debit and Tiger Cards only).
 
Enhanced cleaning and sanitization procedures throughout the park prior to and during all games will be in effect for the 2021 season.
