AUBURN, Ala.—Auburn's Joyce Kimeli established the nation's top time in the women's 3000m steeplechase and broke her own school record in the process winning the race in 9:37.97 Friday during the first day of the War Eagle Invitational at Hutsell-Rosen Track. Kimeli, who also posted the world's second fastest time in 2021, was one of three Tigers to win individual events.

The 2021 NCAA Indoor Champion at 5000m, Kimeli lapped all but two competitors in the field, winning by 37 seconds to claim her second school record in a week's time. In her first race of the outdoor season last Friday, Kimeli broke the Auburn 1500m record. She now owns five school marks indoors and outdoors combined. The win also broke the Hutsell-Rosen Track record of 10:14.89 that was set in 2008.

Senior Eric Brown, racing in his first 1500m since high school, won in a time of 3:47.43, while teammate Silas Kipngetich won the men's 3000m steeplechase in 9:09.23.

Auburn had three individuals grab silver medals in the field events. Erik Ebel was second in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 62.80m/206-0, while in the javelin throw, the Tigers swept second place in both events.
