Tigers claim eight wins, school record at War Eagle Invitational
AUBURN, Ala.—The Auburn track and field team claimed eight total wins, including five on the second day of competition at the War Eagle Invitational at the Hutsell-Rosen Track over the weekend.
Auburn swept the men's and women's 400m hurdles as Malik Metivier and Tylar Colbert won their respective races. Metivier was just off his personal best, crossing in 50.42, while Colbert won her second consecutive race in as many weeks, winning in a PR time of 58.87. Last week Colbert won at the Joe Walker Invitational in Oxford, Miss.
Junior Christopher Grant won the men's 100m dash in a personal-best time of 10.42, while throws teammate Adam Strouf won the men's shot put with a career-best toss of 18.40m/60-4.5.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Tylar Colbert, Niya Benton-Andrews, Hope Igbinoghene and Destiny Charles won gold in 44.92.
Friday, Joyce Kimeli established the nation's top time in the women's 3000m steeplechase while breaking her own school record winning the race in 9:37.97. Kimeli, who also posted the world's third fastest time in 2021, was one of three Tigers to win individual events.
Senior Eric Brown, racing in his first 1500m since high school, won in a time of 3:47.43, while teammate Silas Kipngetich won the men's 3000m steeplechase in 9:09.23.
Auburn will participate in the one-day LSU Alumni Gold Invitational on April 24 in Baton Rouge, La.
