BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas—The Auburn javelin throwers and multi-event competitors had big outings during the first day of the 2021 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships to pace the Tigers' efforts at E.B. Cushing Stadium on the Texas A&M University campus.

The Tigers racked up 18 team points in the women's javelin courtesy of three of the top five finishers. Senior Kylee Carter, the 2019 conference champion in the event, took home silver with a best mark of 56.24m/184-6. Teammate Ashley Carter was third overall (52.37m/171-10), while senior Keira McCarrell was fifth with a mark of 49.92m/163-9.

On the men's side, senior Nils Fischer won the bronze medal with a throw of 71.60m/234-11, despite not being 100 percent. Fischer, who wore a brace on his right elbow, advanced to finals after a throw of 69.85m and was fourth after five throws before moving into third on his sixth and final attempt.

The men's decathlon saw Auburn's three competitors all record Day 1 career-best point totals as freshman David Edmondson led the way with 3953 points, good for second place with five events remaining. Senior Alex Spyridonidis is in third with 3939 points, just 14 behind Edmondson. Freshman John Murray is in 10th place with 3534 points.

Edmondson posted personal-bests in the 100m (11.07), shot put (11.90m/39-0.5) and big mark in the high jump (2.10m/6-10.75). Spyridonidis notched a pair of PRs in the 100m (11.16) and shot put (13.67m/44-10.25)

Senior Natosha Jordan is seventh after Day 1 of the women's heptathlon with first day PR of 3456 points, while recording PRs in the 100m hurdles (13.63) and 200m (24.74).

Seniors Eric Brown and Malik Metivier, both competing in their first SEC Outdoors, advanced to Saturday's finals in the 800m and 400m hurdles, respectively. Brown won his heat in 1:49.73 to automatically advance while registering the tenth fastest time of prelims.  Metivier closed strong to finish second in his heat and third overall in personal-best time of 50.04.

Brown will run Saturday at 6:45 p.m. with Metivier toeing the line at 7:05 p.m.

Redshirt freshman thrower Kyle Brown finished eighth in the men's hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 66.61m/218-6 on his second of six attempts. Brown is the first Tiger male to score at SEC Outdoors in the event since Stephen Saenz was sixth in 2012, while also breaking the school freshman record he set earlier this season.

Through three of 21 events, the Auburn women are second with 18 points while the men are sixth with seven points.

Action begins at 1:45 p.m. CT on Friday with live streaming on SECN+ at 4:35 p.m.  Live results will be available online here.
