SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – It was an early morning for the Auburn women's golf team as the squad was the first out on day one of the 2021 NCAA Women's Golf Championships. The Tigers finished Friday in 18th with a 305 (+17) on the par 72, 6,384-yard Grayhawk Golf Course in Scottsdale.

"We were hoping to take advantage of the early morning tee time, but that was not to be," head coach Melissa Luellen said. "The rough is very penalizing on this course and we were in it far too often. Thankfully, we have many more holes to go to climb the leaderboard."

The Tigers return to the course Saturday and will tee off at 11:30 a.m. local time with Virginia Tech and Oregon.

"The wind will be a challenge in the afternoon so we will have to buckle down and focus on hitting fairways and greens," Luellen said. "This team has such a positive attitude and I know they can make moves tomorrow."

Sophomore Megan Schofill led the way on the day for the Tigers, putting together a 2-over 74. After a slow start on the back nine, the Monticello, Florida product regrouped with three birdies to go 1-under on the front. Her finish placed her tied for 38th overall.

Elena Hualde Zúñiga had a team-best 15 pars on the day and carded a 3-over 75 for the squad. The fifth-year senior had a first round, picking up a birdie on the par 4 14th hole. She concluded tied for 52nd.

Senior Mychael O'Berry followed with a 5-over 77, while classmate Kaleigh Telfer finished with a 7-over 79. The pair each had three birdies on the day.

Freshman Anna Foster rounded out the group with an 8-over 80.
