Richard Fitts has been named the SEC Pitcher of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior pitcher Richard Fitts has been named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The recognition is the first of Fitts' career and the second for Auburn this season. Trace Bright was previously named the SEC Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 1 following his performance against Texas A&M at the Round Rock Classic.

Fitts pitched a career high 8.0 shutout innings in the series and SEC Tournament clinching win at Missouri Friday. His outing was the longest by an Auburn starting pitcher since Jack Owen's complete-game shutouts against UTSA on Mar. 9, 2019.

Fitts faced one over the minimum, retiring the first 14 batters he faced before allowing a two-out single in the fifth and then proceeding to sit down the final 10 batters in his outing. He struck out five of the first 10 batters he faced and matched a season high with seven strikeouts without issuing a walk.

Fitts and the Tigers are set to take on fifth-seeded Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament Tuesday at the Hoover Met.
