AUBURN, Ala. – Fifth-year senior Elena Hualde Zúñiga was named an Honorable Mention All-American by Golfweek on Thursday following an impressive spring for Auburn.
Hualde Zúñiga missed the fall season but made up for it in the spring with four top-20 finishes. The fifth-year senior saved her best play for the postseason where she shot 6-under in the stroke play portion of the SEC Championship and then followed that with team-best performances at the NCAA Louisville Regional and the NCAA Championship.
It was Hualde Zúñiga who clinched Auburn's 10th conference championship by closing out her match in the SEC final against Mississippi State. She also won her match against Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship.
Hualde Zúñiga shot par or better in eight of her 16 rounds, including a season-low 68 (-4) in the third round of the SEC Championship. She finished the season with an average score of 72.81 per round and dropped her career average to 73.77, fourth all-time in program history.
This is the third straight year Auburn has had a Golfweek All-American. Last year, Megan Schofill and Kaleigh Telfer each received Honorable Mention honors.
