From Gordo, Alabama, to Auburn, then Troy with a few stops in between. Larry Blakeney came to Auburn as a quarterback for Hall of Fame Coach Shug Jordan. He also played baseball for the Tigers. After stops as a high school coach, Blakeney returned to the Plains working under Doug Barfield. He was retained by Hall of Famer Pay Dye and was part of the Tigers' reemergence in the 80's.
His coaching ended at Troy as the Trojan's all-time winningest coach. The field at Veteran's Memorial Stadium is named in his honor. Now he's on the ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame. Like so many, Larry and his wife Janice, have returned to live in Auburn. Larry Blakeney is featured in this Talking Tigers Podcast, presented by Wickles Pickles
