Tim Puetz, an All-American at Auburn in 2009 and 2010, has earned a spot on Team Germany for men's tennis doubles, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) announced Thursday.

Puetz will be Auburn's first Olympian in men's tennis. A four-year letterman at Auburn (2008-11), the product of Unsingen, Germany, advanced to the NCAA doubles semifinals in 2009 paired with Alexey Tsyrenov and then was an NCAA singles semifinalist in 2010.

A first-team all-SEC honoree, Puetz was an ITA Southern Region champion in both singles and doubles and, along with Tsyrenov, won the consolation doubles title at the ITA All-American Championships. He posted 93 career wins in singles and 89 in doubles at Auburn.

Puetz is currently ranked No. 39 worldwide in doubles and has won four career ATP event titles, including victories this season at Lyon and Estoril paired with Hugo Nys.

Puetz will likely pair with Kevin Krawietz, a Munich resident who was the partner of Auburn alum Andreas Mies in winning the 2019 and 2020 French Open doubles championships.

Six men will compete for Germany in the Tokyo Olympics, where tennis competition begins Saturday, July 24.

Puetz and Michael Venus of New Zealand dropped a third-set tiebreaker Thursday in their opening round doubles match at Wimbledon.
