PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Auburn men's golfer C.J. Easley earned medalist at the 80th Monroe Invitational Saturday at Monroe Golf Club.

Easley fired a 12-under (69-66-67-66--268) at the par-70 course and won the event by five strokes over Georgia's Nicolas Cassidy. He was the only golfer in the field to shoot in the 60s all four rounds.

The rising junior had 19 birdies and just seven bogeys in 72 holes of action during the week.

Easley joins Monroe member John Kircher, one of the area best-ever local players, as the second Auburn golfer to take home the tournament title.

The Monroe Invitational Championship is one of the longest running, high-level amateur tournaments in the United States. The tournament began in 1937 and has been held annually every year except during World War II (1942-1945).

Tiger Woods played in the Monroe in 1993 when it was a match play event. Woods was defeated by eventual champion Tom Creavy in the semifinals. Many of the world's greatest golfers and major champions have also played in the Monroe. Dustin Johnson (2007), Thomas Pieters (2012) and Andy Ogletree (2019) are among the prestigious list of Monroe Champions.
