AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn right-handed pitcher Cody Greenhill has agreed to a free agent contract with the Washington Nationals.

Greenhill becomes the fifth member of the 2021 team to enter professional baseball, joining Ryan Bliss, Richard Fitts, Tyler Miller and Steven Williams, who were drafted earlier this week.

A native of Russellville, Alabama, Greenhill has been a key cog for Auburn's pitching staff since stepping foot on campus prior to the 2018 season. He finished his time on the Plains ranked tied for fourth in program history with 20 career saves while posting an 11-6 record and 2.78 ERA in 66 career appearances, ranking just outside the career top 10 in ERA and appearances.

A 2018 Freshman All-American and SEC All-Freshman Team performer, Greenhill led the team in ERA (2.30) and ranked third in wins (six) in his first season as Auburn made its first super regional appearances since 1999. The following year, he ranked tied for second in the SEC in saves (12) and helped lead the Tigers to the College World Series for the first time in 22 years.

After not giving up a run in 12.2 innings and four appearances during the shortened 2020 season, Greenhill again led the Tigers with a 3.28 ERA while posting a 3-0 record in 13 appearances and eight starts as a senior.
