FUKUSHIMA, Japan – On the second day of preliminary softball competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Auburn softball assistant coach Emily Carosone and Team Italy fell to Australia, 1-0, Thursday afternoon at Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium.
 
Australia plated an early, second inning run and stranded four Italy base runners in the win. Team Italy battled late with the tying run in scoring position in the seventh but could not find the equalizing hit.
 
Carosone, the first Olympian in Auburn softball program history, earned the start for Team Italy at designated player. The former three-time All-American for the Tigers grounded out in her three trips to the plate.
 
After two days of competition, Team Italy is tied with Mexico for fifth in the standings.  
 
Team Italy continues round robin action Saturday at Yokohama Stadium in Yokohama Japan. First pitch on NBC Sports Network is scheduled for 6 a.m. CT.
