AUBURN, Ala. – Graduate third baseman Rankin Woley was named 2020-21 First Team Academic All-America, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
Woley becomes Auburn's third two-time Academic All-American, joining Robert Sorrell (1981-82) and Cole Lipscomb (2015, '17) on the list. He was previously named Second Team Academic All-America by CoSIDA in 2020.
The recognition comes after Woley was already named 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District and 2021 Senior CLASS Award First Team All-America. He became the first Senior CLASS Award finalist in program history.
The Atlanta, Georgia, native graduated summa cum laude with a 3.92 GPA last summer, earning his bachelor's degree in Business Administration, and took classes this year to prepare for medical school.
Woley was not only named the 2020 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and CoSIDA Academic All-America, but also earned Collegiate Baseball All-America honors after being the only player in Division I to rank in the top 20 in hits, doubles and RBI during the 2020 season. He became the second player in program history to earn athletic and academic All-America honors in the same season, joining former catcher Casey Dunn (1999).
Woley followed up his All-America campaign by ranking second on the team with a .320 average in 2021. He added 12 doubles and a career-high 10 homers. In three seasons and 132 games in an Auburn uniform, Woley turned in a .311 career average and collected 162 hits, 37 doubles, 15 homers and 98 RBI.
