AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn's Megan Schofill has been selected as the first alternate for the USA Curtis Cup Team, which was finalized by the USGA on Monday.

Due to current health and safety guidelines, Schofill and the other alternates will travel with the USA Team to Wales where they will match up against the Great Britain & Ireland Team for the 41st Curtis Cup. The event will be held Aug. 26-28 at Conwy Golf Club in North Wales.

"It's a really big honor," Schofill said. "Not a lot of people can say that they were part of a Curtis Cup team. I'm just excited to go. This is my first time leaving the country. I'm nervous and excited all at the same time. It will just be a really good experience, see a different type of golf, be with some really good players both on the GB&I team and the American team.

"It's something not everyone can say they've done, and I'm just really blessed and excited that I can say I've been a part of a Curtis Cup team now."

The Curtis Cup Match, a biennial international women's amateur golf competition, consists of six foursomes (alternate-shot) matches, six four-ball matches and eight singles matches over three days of competition. The USGA's International Team Selection (ITS) Working Group selects the USA Team while The R&A selects the GB&I Team.

Schofill previously represented the Red, White and Blue at the Arnold Palmer Cup in December. She also played in her first Augusta National Women's Amateur this past spring.

"I've played in some really great events this last year," she said. "It's kind of crazy where golf can take you and just all the amazing people you meet along the way and all the really fun places you get to go."

Schofill and her Auburn teammates will open the 2021-22 season on Sept. 13-14 with the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club in Charleston, South Carolina.
