He came to Auburn as a wide receiver. He played his career for the Tigers as a defensive back…from day one. Alvin Briggs hails from Greenville, Alabama. He came to Auburn because his mother was recruited by Coach Pat Dye, in addition to Alvin.
Following a brief career with the Dallas Cowboys, Briggs came back to his home state and began a coaching career. Three Division II National Championships later at North Alabama, he returned to Greenville as the Athletic Director and Football Coach. He went back to the Florence area to coach before moving to the Alabama High School Athletic Association. In May he was named only fifth Executive Director. He is the first African American in that role.
Alvin Briggs is featured in this Talking Tigers Podcast, presented by Wickles Pickles.
