CHARLESTON, S.C. – Megan Schofill opened her 2021-22 season with back-to-back rounds under par Monday. The Auburn junior fired a 1-under 71 and then followed that with a 70 (-2) in round two to finish the day at 3-under and tied for ninth overall at the Cougar Classic.

Schofill is joined this week at the Par 72 Yeamans Hall Golf Club by teammates Julie McCarthy and Anna Foster. All three are currently in the top 50 through the first two rounds.

McCarthy and Foster both carded a 75 (+3) in the first round but responded with lower scores in round two. McCarthy shot a 2-under 70, her lowest score since turning in a 70 at the 2019 SEC Championship, and finished her day with an eagle on the 15th hole. The senior is 1-over and tied for 31st on the individual leaderboard.

Foster, like McCarthy, knocked in a pair of birdies to shoot even par (72) over the last 18 holes and is in a tie for 45th overall. The trio combined to make a total of 15 birdies and two eagles through two rounds. Schofill also made eagle in the second round.

"A lot of golf today," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "What I especially liked is all three improved their score from round one to round two. 36-hole days are rather long and the focus can sometimes wane, but our focus was excellent toward the end. Julie hit a tremendous hybrid on her final hole to tap in for eagle.

"Tomorrow is a new day with new hole locations, so I hope we take what we learned about the course today and apply it. A great goal is for each to improve by a shot or two."

It will once again be a shotgun start for Tuesday's third round with all three Auburn players teeing off at 8:45 a.m. CT. Live scoring can be found on golfstat.com.
