AUBURN, Ala. – Fall season is officially underway and the men of Auburn golf are ready to build upon the hard work put in last season. After graduating a large, experienced senior class, head coach Nick Clinard has ushered in a wave of fresh talent with four freshman and one new assistant coach. As the fall semester rolls along, we will take a closer look at the men who are taking that step up to the next level and beginning their careers on The Plains.
Third to tee off is freshman Brendan Valdes, a graduate of Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Florida.
Q: Why did you choose to continue your career at Auburn?
Valdes: I knew it was the perfect fit for me. I knew most of the players here. I loved the school's atmosphere, and the coaches are great as well.
Q: What is your favorite course you have ever played on?
Valdes: Adena Golf and Country Club in Ocala, Florida because the views are insane and you hit off of a waterfall.
Q: Other than golf, what sport do you enjoy the most?
Valdes: I enjoy basketball a lot, mostly because of the fast-paced tempo.
Q: If you were to be stranded on a deserted island, what three teammates would be essential for you to bring with you?
Valdes: I would bring Austin (Coggin) because he can cook and has some experience, Frank (Harris) for the laughs and C.J. (Easley) for the muscle.
Q: Who is a professional athlete that you look up to?
Valdes: LeBron James because of his incredible work ethic and how he has never been in a lick of trouble.
Q: What is one word you'd use to describe coach Clinard?
Valdes: Driven.
Q: What made Auburn stand out during your recruiting process?
Valdes: Auburn is different because you automatically feel welcomed and like you are part of the family as soon as you step foot on campus.
Q: How would your friends and family describe you in three words?
Valdes: Energetic, happy, clown.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Valdes: Time travel because I could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted.
Q: What is your favorite memory from your time at Auburn thus far?
Valdes: Playing with my teammates on all of the great courses here.
Q: What is your go-to tournament day snack?
Valdes: Granola bars because they are easy to eat and there are so many different types.
Q: What makes Auburn men's golf special this year?
