The ITA Southern Regionals are underway and host Auburn helped start the action Thursday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
In qualifying singles action, the Tigers' Jackson Ross got off to a strong start with an opening 6-1, 6-2 victory over Vojtech Podzemny of UAB. Ross will face Joao Graca of LSU Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the next round.
Auburn's Spencer Gray fell to Chris Trasker of Troy 6-0, 6-3 in their first qualifying match. Gray will face Luka Petrovic of Tulane in the consolation round at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
Josh Raab was Auburn's third player competing Thursday. The transfer came up short in three sets against David Jeanne Grandinot of Alabama State by a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 score. Raab will square off against Troy's Maxime Hillhouse Friday at 10 a.m.
Action in the 15-team event continues through Tuesday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center; the main draw begins Saturday morning. Admission is free.
