Auburn has two singles semifinalists and a semifinals doubles team still in play at the 2021 ITA Southern Regionals underway at the Yarbrough Tennis Center, a qualifier for the Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships.
Monday morning, Auburn's Jan Galka will face teammate Tad Maclean in one singles semifinal, while on the other side of the bracket, Ole Miss teammates Finn Reynolds and Nikola Slavic will square off. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Galka advanced to the semifinals with wins Sunday over German Samofalov of Alabama (6-2, 6-4) and over Rafael deAlba of Tulane (6-0, 6-1). Maclean posted Sunday victories over Fynn Kuenkler of Tulane (6-2, 6-2) and over Filip Planisek of Alabama (6-3, 6-2) to earn his semifinal berth.
In doubles Sunday afternoon, Auburn's Finn Murgett and Raul Dobai earned a semifinal slot with a tiebreak 8-7 (7-0) victory over Nikola Slavic and Simon Junk of Ole Miss. The Tiger tandem will face LSU's Vlad Lobak and Gabriel Diaz Freire in a semifinal match beginning at noon Monday.
The other doubles semifinal, beginning at 11 a.m., will match Alabama's Filip Planisek and Juan Martin against Ruan DuPreeze and Samrakshyak Bajracharya of Alabama State.
Teams participating in the tournament, which began Thursday, included host Auburn, Alabama, Alabama State, Alcorn State, Jacksonville State, Louisiana, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane and UAB.
All Auburn home tennis action is at the Yarbrough Tennis Center (1717 Richland Road, Auburn). Fans are welcome to attend all matches; fans may want to bring lawn chairs or blankets for outdoor seating. If matches are played indoors, face coverings will be required for admittance.
The singles finalists and doubles champions advance to the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego, Calif., in November.
Auburn has had four regional singles winners in the past dozen years: 2009: Tim Puetz; 2011: Andreas Mies; 2014: Lukas Ollert; 2015: Max Hinnisdaels. Tim Dollman was a singles and doubles finalist in 2019.
