After a 2:35 match Tuesday morning, Auburn's Tad Maclean came up just short in three sets in the ITA Southern Regional singles championship at Auburn's Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Nikola Slavic of Ole Miss won the title with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 three-set victory.
After dropping the first set 6-2, Maclean pulled ahead to a 3-1 advantage in the second set and held on at 6-4 to force a third and deciding frame.
In the third set, Maclean fell behind 3-1, but came back to tie the set at 3-3 and 4-4 before Slavic eked out the win.
Both singles and doubles finalists (Alabama and LSU) advance to the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego, Calif., in November.
