It's time to meet the newcomers to the 2021-22 Auburn equestrian team!
Let's get to know a freshman from Sammamish, Washington…Jenna Chiarella! Jenna came to Auburn with a wealth of accolades in Horsemanship, including five Appaloosa Youth World Horsemanship championships. She also earned a top 10 finish at the 2020 AQHYA World Show, taking seventh in Level 2 Horsemanship.
Q: What is your major and what do you plan to do with it?
"Currently I am a general or pre-engineering major. I am taking introductory classes for a couple of majors, but I have not decided on anything yet."
Q: Do you have a favorite study spot on campus?
"I like studying in the library. I do not do it much but when I do, I find it very peaceful. I wish I had more time to just sit and read and I would come to the library for that. I also like studying in SADC. It is not as cozy as the library, but it is a good place to get work done."
Q: Coming from Washington, has it been hard to adjust to Auburn?
"The hardest adjustment has been the weather. It was so humid here and Washington is not humid at all. I feel like the campus it very diverse, so I do not feel out of place in the South."
Q: Tell me something about yourself that not a lot of people know.
"In middle school I was in our school's band. I used to play the clarinet. I am not good at it or at least I did not practice enough (or at all), but I have always enjoyed the music bands get to play."
Q: What's your favorite Auburn sport to watch besides equestrian and why?
"I find the gymnastics very interesting. I used to do gymnastics before I got into horses, so I have always liked it. I just find it very exciting."
Q: What are your goals for this season? What are your goals for the team?
"Right now, I am focusing on getting good grades and getting used to the chaos of showing and being a student. I can reassess goals when I feel more comfortable but right now, I am just trying to get used to everything."
Q: If you could travel anywhere for 24 hours, where would you go and why?
"I love Europe. I have gone a couple of times with my family. I love old buildings, beautiful churches, art museums and most importantly all the history Europe contains. I have been to Italy and France and London. In Italy, I would go back to Florence, in France, Paris or Versailles and England, London or High Clare. I would move to London if I could. I know my mom would come with me."
Q: What does "War Eagle" mean to you, and why?
"The phrase 'War Eagle' to me is like something like an inside joke you family says. Everyone in the family uses it and knows what it means and maybe to outsiders it seems weird, but your family gets it and that's all that matters."
Q: Name one thing you are excited about this season, and why?
"One thing I am excited about this season is getting to know the team. Again, I do not have real goals for the season. I just want to get used to everything and really get to know the team."
