AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women's golf team closed the fall with a tournament title at the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic. On Sunday, the Tigers will make their long-awaited return, opening the spring slate at the Moon Golf Invitational in Melbourne, Florida.
The three-day event, hosted by former Auburn golfer Anne Moon and her husband, will take place from Feb. 14-16 at Duran Golf Club (Par 72, 6,383 yards) and feature 18 teams.
Auburn, ranked No. 5 coming into the spring, will be joined by No. 2 South Carolina, No. 3 LSU, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 8 Florida and No. 9 Oklahoma in a field that includes six of the top 10 teams per Golfstat's rankings.
"I think Megan Schofill said it perfect. It's really just go out and win every day," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "If we do that, then obviously you add it up and we're going to win the tournament.
"There are a lot of different ways to define winning. I think their mental and emotional management is really important because they are excited, they know they're good – but it's important to stay in the present and be mentally strong and sharp."
Schofill, who was a co-medalist the last time out at the Liz Murphey, is heading up Auburn's lineup this week in the No. 1 spot. She'll be followed by Mychael O'Berry and Kaleigh Telfer with true freshmen Anna Foster and Elina Sinz rounding out the group.
This will be Auburn's first time playing in the Moon Invitational.
The Tigers will be paired with Arkansas, Louisville and LSU for Sunday's opening round, which will feature a shotgun start with all 18 teams teeing off at 7:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com.
