No. 17 Auburn sets school record in 33-0 blowout of Alabama A&M

AUBURN, Ala. – No. 17 Auburn set the school record for runs in game as the Tigers defeated Alabama A&M, 33-0, Wednesday night at Plainsman Park.
 
Sophomore Brayton Brown hit a double into the gap in left center to score Cole Foster from first and set the single-game record, eclipsing the previous mark of 32 runs against Troy on Mar. 2, 1994.
 
Along with setting the school record for runs, the Tigers also tied the program record with 27 hits in the contest. The previous mark was also set against Troy in 1994.
 
"That's about as much professionalism as I've seen in nine innings, respecting the opponent," head coach Butch Thompson said. "We just continued to have at bats that never got stale. We played the game of baseball and respected it and played it at a very consistent, high level for nine innings.
 
"When we can get where there's one way to play this game, that'll keep us off an emotional roller coaster and get us playing good consistent baseball," Thompson added.
 
Fifteen Tigers saw action in the contest, and 12 different players recorded a hit. Brody Moore led the way by going 4-for-6 with seven RBI as 10 players, including all nine in the starting lineup, ultimately collected multiple hits and nine drove in multiple runs.
 
"It was awesome," Moore said. "Hitting is always contagious, and we have guys that can just pass the bat down to the next guy and go at-bat to at-bat and not worry about the scoreboard or about the team we're playing."

With the record-setting output, Auburn outscored Alabama A&M 51-2 and outhit the Bulldogs 41-6 in two games this week.
 
"Stay short and let the big things happen," Moore added of the team's offensive mindset. "I think that resulted greatly in what we did tonight."
 
After the two teams went scoreless in the first two innings, Auburn scored in each of the last six frames, including four or more runs in five straight innings from the third through the seventh. The team's 14-run fourth inning came up two runs shy of tying the program record for runs in an inning.
 
Fifteen of Auburn's 27 hits went for extra-bases, including 11 doubles, three triples and one home run. Moore, Steven Williams and Garrett Farquhar each collected a pair of doubles in the game as the Tigers totaled 10 or more doubles for the first time since 2010. Tyler Miller was one of four players to drive in four or more runs and hit his first home run in an Auburn uniform in the game.
 
Freshman Jack Sokol (1-0, 0.00) made his Auburn debut in the start and pitched 4.0 scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed one hit and issued three walks with six strikeouts.
 
The first two batters in Alabama A&M's lineup reached to start the game, but Sokol settled down and struck out four straight batters in the second and third innings.  
 
Auburn's bullpen continued its strong start to the season as Blake Burkhalter, Hayden Mullins, Joseph Gonzalez, Seb Thomas and Carson Skipper threw an inning apiece to finish it off. Burkhalter, Mullins and Gonzalez each struck out a pair in their outings.
 
After doubling on the first pitch of the game, Alabama A&M didn't record a hit until the eighth inning.
 
Auburn hits the road for the first time since the 2019 College World Series as the Tigers are set to take on Oklahoma, Baylor and Texas A&M in the Round Rock Classic this weekend.
