AWENDAW, S.C. – Auburn men's golfers J.M. Butler and Alex Vogelsong have been honored by the Southeastern Conference, the league office announced Wednesday. Butler was named the SEC Men's Freshman of the Week, while Vogelsong was tabbed SEC Men's Newcomer of the Week.
Butler has now earned three freshman of the week honors this season (Feb. 17, March 18). For Vogelsong, it is his first weekly award this campaign.
The duo helped guide Auburn to a tie for third in a 16-team field at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate during the week.
Butler logged his fourth top-20 finish of the season after completing his three-round tournament in a tie for 12th at 2-under (72-71-71--214).
The Louisville, Ky. native turned in three cards that were at or under par, including his 10th and 11th below-par rounds of the season.
Butler turned in 11 birdies and had just eight bogeys in 54 holes played.
Vogelsong earned his third top-20 finish of the season after tying for eighth at 4-under (70-68-74--212).
The Palm City, Fla. native racked up 13 birdies on the week and had just eight bogeys in 54 holes.
Vogelsong turned in his seventh and eighth rounds below par in the 2020-21 campaign.
The Tigers return to action April 5-7 for The Collegiate Invitational at The Country Club of Birmingham.
