EUGENE, Ore.—Former Auburn All-American Rachel Dincoff made her first United States Olympic Team when she qualified for Tokyo in the women's discus throw after finishing third in the finals of the U.S. Olympic Trials on June 19 at Hayward Field.
Dincoff became Auburn's first United States track and field Olympian since Coby Miller represented the Red, White and Blue in 2000 and 2004 and Auburn's first female ever in the sport to represent the United States. A native of Waterloo, Ind., Dincoff is the 43rd Auburn athlete ever to qualify for the Summer Olympics in track and field.
A four-time outdoor All-American at Auburn from 2014-16, Dincoff finished second in the qualifying round on June 18 with an Olympic Standard mark of 61.63m/202-2. The following day, she moved from fourth position to third on her fifth of sixth throws with a clutch toss of 60.21/197-6 to earn one of three spots in the discipline for the United States.
In May, Dincoff posted a lifetime best mark of 64.41m, which ranks No. 12 in the world in 2021. She currently is a volunteer coach at New Mexico State, where she has served in that capacity since 2017, while also training and competing professionally.
During her tenure at Auburn, Dincoff established herself as the most decorated women's discus thrower in school history. She broke and still holds the Auburn record in the discus throw and owns six of the top 10 marks in Auburn history. Dincoff was a three-time NCAA Outdoors performer, qualifying twice in the shot put and two times in the discus throw.
The 2020 Summer Olympics, postponed until this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be held July 23-August 8 in Tokyo, Japan. Dincoff will be scheduled to compete in the women's discus throw qualifying round on Friday, July 30 between 7-10 pm CT (Saturday, July 31, 9-12 JST).
