ATHENS, Ga. – Making her 2021-22 season debut, Auburn senior Kaleigh Telfer won the individual title at the Lady Bulldog Invitational on Sunday.
After shooting a 5-under 67 in the first round Saturday, Telfer turned in a 74 (+2) over the last 18 holes to finish the tournament at 3-under, two strokes ahead of the next competitor. It was the third career individual victory for Telfer and first since February 2020 when she won the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.
"I loved getting back out on the golf course wearing the AU logo again after a couple months," Telfer said. "I have been playing well at home, so it was really nice to see my game translate to a tournament."
Telfer saw her four-shot lead from Saturday start to disappear after struggling on the front nine, but she turned it on with three birdies over the final seven holes to secure the victory. She finished with a total of eight birdies in 36 holes.
Telfer became Auburn's first individual champion since Megan Schofill shared medalist honors at the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic last season.
Sophomore Elina Sinz finished tied for 10th at the Lady Bulldog Invitational after closing with a 75 (+3) in Sunday's second round. Sinz was 7-over for the tournament.
Freshman Morgan Jones and sophomore Ashley-Sinclair Curtis placed in a tie for 32nd at 20-over to round out the Auburn contingent playing as individuals in Athens.
The Tigers will make their spring debut as a team next weekend when they travel to Orlando, Florida to compete in the UCF Challenge on Feb. 6-8.
