In 1997, Auburn softball competed in its inaugural season. Throughout the 2022 campaign, we are celebrating the many faces, moments and victories that have shaped our program over the last 25 years.
As part of our 25 Years of Auburn Softball celebration, we're checking in with alumni from every era of the program to share their memories of being a Tiger.
The next Tiger stepping to the plate really needs no introduction. She's an All-SEC performer, an All-American, a Golden Glove winner. She helped the Tigers to back-to-back Women's College World Series appearances in 2015 and 2016 and still ranks in the top 10 in eight Auburn career categories. From Sarasota, Fla., infielder Jade Rhodes (2013-16).
Q: Why did you decide to continue your softball career at Auburn?
Rhodes: The family atmosphere was the best experience!
Q: What is your favorite on-field memory?
Rhodes: Turning double plays with Emily Carosone and her being my right side through it all.
Q: What do you consider your biggest accomplishment during your collegiate career – on or off the field?
Rhodes: My biggest accomplishment was becoming an All-American and being the best defensive first baseman possible.
Q: What is one of your favorite memories with a teammate?
Rhodes: My favorite memory was creating an unspeakable bond at first base with Emily (Carosone) being my second baseman. We didn't need to speak to communicate. We just knew.
Q: Looking back at your career, what is one word you'd use to describe it?
Rhodes: Unforgettable.
Q: Who influenced your softball career the most?
Rhodes: My mother and myself with determination.
Q: What was your favorite uniform combo?
Rhodes: Orange tops, blue bottoms.
Q: Why advice would you give to current/future Auburn softball student-athletes?
Rhodes: Don't think that you have it all just because you're at a Division I college. Appreciate the little things because I would rather have the little things and got to the World Series and be great than to have it all and be average.
Q: If you can give a message to the Auburn Family, what would it be?
Rhodes: Thank you for accepting my craziness on and off the field. The passion I had for my Auburn family and fans could never be replaced. The true Auburn fans know what it's like to come from the bottom.
Q: What degree did you earn? What is your current career path?
Rhodes: I earned my degree in public administration/criminal justice. I am now a police officer for the city of Orlando alongside my husband. We are welcoming our baby boy in April of 2022.
