If there is one play that epitomizes Sammie Coates' career at Auburn, it came in the 2013 game at Texas A&M. He literally threw down his defender in front of the Aggie bench after making a catch. The Tigers won that day in College Station. It was one of the biggest wins in an SEC Championship season.
How Coates got to Auburn is quite a story. He committed to Southern Miss out of Leroy High School in south Alabama. His friend, Andrew Williams, talked him into attending a summer camp on the Plains. After one practice session, he had an offer to play for Auburn. After a four-year NFL career, he and his family moved back to Auburn. He has completed police academy training and works with the City of Auburn Police Department.
