BOSTON – Auburn distance All-American Presley Weems broke her second consecutive school record Friday at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational with a 2:04.05 run in the women's 800m. The previous record, 2:06.50, was set by Sarah Reese in 2003.
"It's certainly not a bad day when you can run a top-10 national time and break a school record in your first 800 of the year," Tigers distance coach Aaron Kindt said. "Presley continues to grow more confident by the day, and I believe her best is still yet to come."
Weems finished seventh overall and first amongst all collegiate competitors. She clocks in with the sixth-fastest time in the NCAA this year.
Senior Joyce Kimeli also ran an impressive race in the women's 5000m, posting a time of 15:43.83 to finish eighth overall. Like teammate Weems, Kimeli was only bested by professionals and finished atop the collegiate standings. Kimeli's time stands as third-fastest in Auburn history.
"Today was another great step forward for Joyce," Kindt said. "She got her first win of the indoor season, and she ran a really strong second half of the race. I'm really encouraged by where both she and Presley are at this point of the year, heading into championship season."
