AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn gymnastics team remains No. 7 this week per RoadToNationals.com. The weekly rankings are based on an average score of all meets competed.
The Tigers are coming off another solid score, earning 197.575 at home vs. Missouri. The team broke the program's beam record with a 49.625 against Mizzou.
"We're going into a big road meet this Friday at Georgia and we still have plenty to work on," head coach Jeff Graba said. "We need to improve our execution as well as make some upgrades. These next few weeks are going to be extremely important for us to improve our scoring potential and develop our depth. If we can improve, we will be in really good shape for a late push in the postseason."
No. 7 Auburn travels to rival and No. 27 Georgia this Friday, facing the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
Michigan stands on top with Florida and Oklahoma in a close second and third. Utah and LSU are ranked fourth and fifth with Minnesota holding on to sixth. Alabama (8), Kentucky (10), Missouri (11) and Arkansas (16) are all in the top 20.
The Tigers continue to climb the event rankings, moving up to second on beam following their program-record score on Friday. The squad holds a 49.388 average just behind Florida's 49.392.
Auburn is seventh on vault (49.288), ninth on floor (49.321) and 11th on bars (49.254).
Individually, freshman Sunisa Lee is third in the all-around with a 39.700 average. She's also 11th on bars (9.908), tied for 18th on floor (9.919) and tied for 25th on vault (9.875).
Senior Derrian Gobourne is tied for 15th on floor (9.921) and tied for 23rd on vault (9.879). Freshman Sophia Groth is in the top 50 on all three of her events, including 19th on beam (9.895). Fifth year Drew Watson is 18th on vault (9.883) and junior Piper Smith is tied for 13th on beam (9.900).
