Women's hoops welcomes No. 21 Georgia Sunday

AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women's basketball team begins its final home stand Sunday morning as No. 21 Georgia visits Auburn Arena for an 11 a.m. CT tip.
 
Fans are advised to be aware of parking and traffic changes Sunday as the War Eagle Run Fest will cause road closures and affect accessible routes to campus and Auburn Arena. The Tigers will be facing their third straight ranked opponent after tough contests against No. 17 Florida and No. 1 South Carolina last week. Georgia defeated Missouri Thursday night to snap a three-game skid.

››           Top-ranked South Carolina lived up to its billing Thursday night as Auburn fell 75-38 at Colonial Life Arena.
››           The Tigers kept things close for a quarter, but the Gamecocks pulled away early in the second and never looked back.
››           Aicha Coulibaly led Auburn with nine points and nine rebounds. Honesty Scott-Grayson added eight points.
››           The Gamecocks pulled down 62 rebounds to Auburn's 25 and turned 24 offensive boards into 21 second-chance points. Carolina shot 43 percent from the field (32-74) while Auburn was 29 percent (18-62). On a better note, the Tigers had a season-low seven turnovers.

››           Auburn's Unique Thompson led all scorers with 22 points, but a big Georgia run to end the third quarter put the game out of reach as the Tigers fell 74-54 at Stegeman Coliseum.
››           Thompson finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season and 55th of her career. She also added a team-high four steals.
››           Honesty Scott-Grayson shook off a slow start to finish with 12 points; she also had three rebounds. Keya Patton and Aicha Coulibaly had eight points apiece.
››           The Tigers forced Georgia into 28 turnovers, the most by an Auburn opponent this season, converting those into 21 points. But it was another rough shooting night for the Tigers as Auburn finished 18-of-64 (28%) from the floor and made just 2-of-11 3-point attempts. Georgia shot 47 percent (27-58) and controlled the boards, out-rebounding Auburn 54-31.

››           Georgia is 18-6 overall and 7-6 in the SEC, currently in sixth place in the standings. The Lady Bulldogs won five of six at one point in league play, then snapped a 3-game skid Thursday night with a win over Missouri.
››           Georgia averages 70.1 points per game while holding opponents to 58.1, third-best in the SEC in scoring defense. The Dawgs are among the league's best free-throw shooting teams (73.0%) and lead the league in assists (16.8/game).
››           Jenna Staiti leads UGA with 15.0 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, and she is second in the league in FG% at 52.2%. Que Morrison is third in the SEC in assists at 4.8/game.
 
SCOUTING AUBURN
››           Auburn is 9-15, 1-12 in SEC play. The Tigers finally broke through with a stunning 71-61 win over No. 4 Tennessee on Jan. 27, snapping a 23-game SEC losing streak.
››           In Auburn's losses, the Tigers have led in the fourth quarter in six games and have been within one possession in the final minute of regulation seven times.
››           With wins at No. 18 Georgia Tech on Nov. 21 and at home over No. 4 Tennessee on Jan. 27, Auburn has two wins over ranked opponents for the first time since 2016.
››           Sophomore Aicha Coulibaly leads Auburn and is fourth in the SEC in scoring with 17.7 points/game. She is also the Tigers' top rebounder with 7.7 rebounds per game (9th SEC). She has topped the 20-point mark in nine contests, scoring a career-high 27 against Charleston Southern, 23 against North Florida, 25 vs. Oklahoma State, 24 at Belmont, 23 vs. Kennesaw State, 24 at Florida, 26 vs. Tennessee, 21 at Vanderbilt and 24 vs. Mississippi State. She also has four double-doubles this season, including 14 points and 11 rebounds vs. Kentucky. For her efforts against UNF and OSU, she was named SEC Player of the Week on Dec. 7.
››           Redshirt junior Honesty Scott-Grayson is averaging 12.7 points and 5.8 rebounds, and she has recorded three double-doubles, including 21 points and a career-high 14 rebounds vs. Florida (2/13). She scored a season-high 23 points at Arkansas (2/10).
››           Junior guard Sania Wells is the SEC's top free-throw shooter at .920 (69-75), which also ranks 7th nationally. She scored a career-high 20 points at Missouri on Jan. 6.
››           Junior Annie Hughes is the only Tiger to appear in every game since the start of the 2019-20 season. Hughes scored a career-high 21 points and hit 5 3-pointers against Charleston Southern on Nov. 26. She also hit a key 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter that was a dagger in the Tigers' upset of No. 4 Tennessee.
