AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn battled back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Clemson, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at the Atlanta United Training Ground.
"First off, a huge thanks to Atlanta United for letting us play on their training ground. That was a great experience for our team," head coach Karen Hoppa said. "Secondly, I thought our team really grew today. We were average in the first half but responded really well in the second half. We created a ton of opportunities and scored two nice goals to come from behind against a high-qaulity Clemson team."
Clemson took a 1-0 lead on a free kick that Auburn goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska initially saved, but the opposing Tigers rebounded into the back of the net.
Auburn made adjustments at the break and responded with a clean sheet from Makenna Garcia and two goals on the other end in the second half.
Garcia made a crucial save on a breakaway early in the second half to keep the Clemson lead to one, and LJ Knox eventually scored the equalizer off a header from a free kick from Anna Haddock. Minutes later, Haddock scored the game-winner with an assist from Haley Duca. The goal was the second in as many spring exhibitions for Haddock.
Auburn has some time to train before its next exhibition, scheduled for Mar. 26 at LSU.
