ORLANDO, Fla. – The Auburn women's golf team wrapped up the final holes of the UCF Challenge on Tuesday morning and finished fifth overall at 16-under par.
Sophomore Anna Foster placed ninth individually, shooting 7-under for the tournament.
On Monday, Auburn played the second round and part of the third round in an attempt to finish early Tuesday and avoid incoming weather. After back-to-back stellar rounds, the Tigers struggled to find the same rhythm in the third round, shooting 3-over.
Senior Mychael O'Berry was the lone Auburn player to shoot under par in the third round, carding a 2-under 70 for the second straight round. Tied for 90th after the first day, O'Berry climbed all the way into a tie for 45th at 1-over for the tournament.
Though Foster saw her streak of rounds under par come to an end, she still made a pair of birdies in the final round to finish at even par. It was the third top-10 finish of the season for Foster who made 11 total birdies and the only eagle of the week for the Tigers.
Megan Schofill and Elina Sinz both earned top-50 finishes while senior Kaleigh Telfer just missed with a tie for 51st. Schofill turned in a 1-over 73 in the final round to finish at 2-under for the week and tied for 31st overall. Sinz, who shot a 68 (-4) in Monday's second round, shot even par through three rounds and placed in a tie for 42nd individually.
Senior Julie McCarthy, Auburn's lone individual, matched Foster with a 72 (E) in the third round. It was McCarthy's best round of the tournament.
With the fifth-place finish, the Tigers have now finished top five in all three team tournaments this season. Next up is a trip back to the Sunshine State to play in the Moon Golf Invitational. The tournament, played in Melbourne, Florida, is Feb. 20-22.
