Will Nolan SEC Freshman of the Week

Auburn's Will Nolan earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors for men's tennis, after his singles success at Georgia Tech stretched his unbeaten spring record to 5-0.

The freshman from Derbyshire, England, has not lost a set in singles this spring, playing mainly at No. 6. He clinched the team win at Georgia Tech, the Tigers' first road match of the season, with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Tech's Angel Guerrero. Nolan is 2-0 in doubles this spring.

"Will has been an unbelievable addition to our team this year," Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds said. "His carefree but intense on-court personality has given him confidence to anchor this team at No. 6. He battled through adversity this past week with an illness that kept him from practicing, but he assured the coaches he was ready to battle vs. Georgia Tech.

"He's a player who wants the match to come down to his court and thrives in big moments and in the spotlight."

Daniel Rodrigues of South Carolina is the SEC player of the week.

Auburn is now 5-0 for the spring season; the Tigers are ranked No. 24 in the Tennis Channel/USTA Top 25 this week, and also No. 24 in the ITA rankings. That's the first Top 25 listing for the Tigers since the 2013 season.

In the new ITA individual rankings, the Tigers continue to have three ranked players in singles: Jan Galka (84), Tad Maclean (85) and Tyler Stice (95). In doubles, Galka and Stice are ranked No. 44.

The Tigers are at home this weekend for matches with South Alabama Friday at 2 p.m. and on Sunday with Tulane at noon and Alabama State at 5 p.m. Free pizza is the giveaway for fans both days, while supplies last.
All Auburn home tennis action is at the Yarbrough Tennis Center (1717 Richland Road, Auburn) and admission is free. Auburn has a mask policy currently in effect campus-wide.
