AUBURN, Ala. – With its win streak growing to 13 consecutive games, Auburn softball saw movement in a pair of polls ahead of its Southeastern Conference opener.
Auburn (21-1) received its highest ranking of the season thus far in the latest DI Softball Top 25 as the Tigers were selected No. 19. Auburn jumped a pair of spots to No. 20 in the latest Softball America Top 25.
The Tigers held steady at No. 20 for the second straight week in both the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25.
Auburn's pitching staff was in the spotlight this week as sophomore Maddie Penta was tabbed the SEC Pitcher of the Week as well as the Wilson/NFCA Division I Pitcher of the Week. Penta is currently tied for the national lead with 13 wins while she ranks second in the country in total strikeouts. As a staff the Tigers rank ninth in the country with a team ERA of 1.35.
Oklahoma remains the unanimous No. 1 team in the country for the fourth consecutive week. A total of nine SEC programs were rankings, including No. 2 Alabama, No. 4 Florida, No. 9 Kentucky, No. 12 Arkansas, No. 14 Missouri, No. 15 Georgia, No. 18 Tennessee and No. 21 LSU.
