HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – On Monday, in the opening round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, Auburn sophomore Anna Foster saw her long birdie putt on 13 (Par 3) roll up to cup, pause and then drop in. It was one of three birdies on the day for Foster who led the Tigers with a 1-over 72. She's tied for 12th overall after one day.
Auburn is in 12th place as a team after shooting 14-over for the day. No team in the 17-team field finished under par in the opening round at Long Cove Club (Par 71, 6281 yards).
Junior Megan Schofill, who finished tied for third at the event two years ago, carded a 74 (+3) on Monday with one birdie and is currently in a tie for 37th individually.
Mychael O'Berry and Elina Sinz are both tied for 55th after shooting 5-over, and to round out the Auburn contingent, senior Kaleigh Telfer finished at 8-over and is tied for 73rd. Telfer made two of the team's seven birdies for the round.
Through one round, Baylor has the lead at 3-over (287), followed by Texas (289), Alabama (290), Wake Forest (291), LSU (291), Arizona State (292), Georgia (294), Arkansas (295), Vanderbilt (295), Northwestern (296), Furman (296), Auburn (298), Duke (301), Louisville (301), North Carolina (302), South Carolina (303) and Kentucky (303).
