WICHITA, Kan. – Auburn catcher Jake Wyandt has been named to the 2022 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award watch list, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced.
Wyandt is one of 76 catchers across the country, including nine from the Southeastern Conference, to earn the distinction. It marks the second straight season Wyandt, a graduate transfer from Presbyterian, has been named to the watch list.
Semifinalists for the award will be announced May 19, and three finalists will be announced June 7. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita, Kansas, and the winner will be announced June 29.
Through 10 games this season, Wyandt is hitting .241 with a double, home run and 10 RBI. He has formed the battery with an Auburn pitching staff that has allowed the fewest runs through 14 games since 1940, and the Tigers are 9-0 in games Wyandt has started behind the plate.
Wyandt is currently riding a five-game hitting streak and is 7-for-16 with six runs and nine RBI during the span. The Laurel, Maryland, native recorded his first hits and drove in three runs against UAB on Mar. 2 to start the hot streak. He collected multiple hits for the second time in four games and drove in a career best four runs, with three coming on his first home run in an Auburn uniform, in the series finale against Rhode Island.
Wyandt and the Tigers (12-2) wrap up non-conference play with a three-game series against Middle Tennessee (4-9) starting Friday at 6 p.m. CT at Plainsman Park.
