'Great opportunity': Tigers take on top-ranked Ole Miss to open SEC play

AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn (13-4) is set to begin Southeastern Conference play with a three-game series against No. 1 Ole Miss (13-3) from Thursday through Saturday at Plainsman Park. First pitches are set for Thursday at 6 p.m. CT, Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.

"That's pretty exciting when a No. 1 team comes to town," head coach Butch Thompson said. "This shapes up to be a week of great opportunity and an exciting way to open SEC play at home."
 
Thursday's game will air nationally on SEC Network and is the first of eight nationally televised games this season. Friday and Saturday's contests can be streamed on SEC Network+. All three contests will also be broadcast on the Auburn Sports Network.

 QUICK HITTERS 
Auburn is 3-2 in SEC home openers under head coach Butch Thompson.
 
Ole Miss represents the Tigers sixth straight top-25 opponent on SEC opening weekend.
 
This weekend starts a stretch of six of the next eight weekends against teams currently ranked in the top 25, including five opponents ranked in the top eight.
 
Blake Rambusch and Jake Wyandt have book ended the Auburn lineup and currently lead the team with seven-game hitting streaks.
 
Rambusch is hitting .462 (12-for-26) during his streak and Wyandt is hitting .409 (9-for-22) in his.
 
Ryan Dyal leads the team and ranks in the top 25 in the NCAA with 22 RBI. He has driven in multiple runs in five of the last seven games, totaling 15 RBI during the span.
 
Auburn starting pitchers are 6-1 with a 2.16 ERA this season.
 
Trace Bright will make his fifth straight start this weekend and is Auburn's first pitcher to turn in three straight quality starts since Tanner Burns did it twice in 2019.
 
Auburn is 88-94-1 all-time against Ole Miss, including 51-36 at Plainsman Park, and has won five straight home series against the Rebels.
 SCOUTING THE REBELS 
Ole Miss enters SEC opening weekend with a 13-3 overall record and has outscored opponents 152-48.
 
The Rebels return eight of nine starters from a year ago.
 
Offensively, the team ranks eighth in the league with a .305 average and is led by junior college transfer Reagan Burford, who is hitting .355 in 13 games and 11 starts. Tim Elko leads the way in slugging with seven homers and 23 RBI.
 
On the mound, Ole Miss ranks fourth in the conference with a 2.59 ERA and has 169 strikeouts in 128.1 innings.

Fans are encouraged to park in the coliseum parking lot, athletics complex parking deck and the stadium parking deck. Additional parking is available in the Neville Arena lot.
 
Students who plan to utilize the new outfield viewing plaza in right center do not need to enter through the main student gate and may bring outside food and beverage into the space.
 
Students who wish to sit inside the ballpark (sections 111 and 58-73) must enter through the gate located behind home plate. Students will utilize their digital Tiger Card on their phones for entry. They may no longer enter through the gate located at the Tiger Terrace or down the right field, which has been moved approximately 30 feet from its original location.
 
All transactions for concessions and merchandise locations at Plainsman Park will be cashless (credit/debit and Tiger Cards only).
