ATLANTA – After leading off Auburn's 200 medley relay on Wednesday night, sophomore Meghan Lee continued to make the most of her first NCAA Women's Championships on Thursday as she set a new personal best in the 200 IM prelims.
Lee touched the wall second in her heat and finished 25th overall. With a time of 1:56.72, she also moved up to seventh all-time in Auburn history in the event.
Lee was one five Auburn swimmers to compete in Thursday's prelims. Fellow sophomore Hannah Ownbey also swam the 200 IM where she finished 68th while senior Emily Hetzer took 47th in the 500 freestyle.
In the 50 freestyle prelims, freshman Lexie Mulvihill finished third in her heat and tied for 37th overall with a time of 22.35, just missing her personal best (22.16). Senior Mykenzie Leehy, competing in the first of three events on the week, placed 61st at 22.75.
Mulvihill and Leehy also competed in the night session as part of Auburn's 200 freestyle relay team along with Rebekah Hamilton and Emma Steckiel. Steckiel put in the fastest split at 22.14 on the third leg, and the group finished with a time of 1:29.03 to place 23rd.
It will be a full day for the Tigers on Friday with nine individual swimmers competing in five different events in prelims. They will also have the 400 medley relay team go in the night session. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. CT with finals at 5 p.m. CT.
